My Apologies! Briefly MIA

So, I've hit the new job point when it's after the inital excitement and the tiredness that comes with adjusting to full time work hits! Crafty time has been significantly reduced this week, there was no IHSW stitching this weekend at all! I've been doing a little bit of sewing, but that for now is all. Things will settle down quickly hopefully though - until then, I'll be around, just posting a little less frequency :)

Starting my first quilt!

I've been pretty busy with my first week at work (so much fun), but when the fabric for my first ever attempt at a quilt arrived in the post I really couldn't resist getting started straight away. Yesterday evening I put together the layout for the centre of the quilt top while watching the NZ Masterchef final. .  and pestering hubby every ad break for advice. Tonight I managed to sew my first couple of rows together

Sorry for the bad light. It's midwinter here, so working from 8.30-5 means that I'm not home for enough natural light for photos.

I'm having lots of fun with the quilt so far. I'm pretty confident with my sewing machine, and at the moment I'm just sewing squares together, so it's easy. I chose a pretty simple pattern with precuts, so I can concentrate more on the skills I don't already know. I must confess though that because I haven't invested in a quarter-inch foot for my machine yet, I've been drawing them in with my dressmaking pencils just so I can make doubly sure I'm right instead of eye-balling it!

That's all for now,

An update on Iris

There hasn't been too much stitching lately, I've been rushing around getting things ready for going into work full time. Wedding prep has gone into overdrive! But these last couple of days I've slowed down a little just to enjoy my last days 'off' as such and Iris has gotten some work.

It's starting to look a bit more like a flower now that the outline of the base is in, though it looks a bit lopsided without page 2 (to the left)! I'm enjoying it, the purples are lovely and when I get momentarily sick of them I just swap to one of the middle colours for a while.

Have a happy stitchy weekend friends,
